Free and Reduced Meal Information

The 30-day carryover of meal benefit eligibility from the 2022-2023 school year expires on September 30, 2023. If your student is not directly certified effective July 1, 2023, or later, please complete the electronic Household Eligibility Application (HEA) at https://nslpapp.com on or after July 1, 2023. Applications for 2023-2024 submitted prior to July 1, 2023, will not be processed. To obtain a paper application, please visit your student's school office. Please note that completing the electronic HEA will result in faster processing.

Before you complete the NSLP Application:

ENGLISH: 

  • Be sure you have linked all of your students in your PushCoin account. 

  • Complete only ONE application per household. 

  • Include ALL members in your household (adults and children).  Click “Add Member” for each member and include income for each member earning income. 

  • Include each student’s D200 ID number.  If you do not have your student’s ID number, please contact your student’s school for this information. 

  • Be sure to list your GROSS income, not net income.

Directly Certified Students
Families of students who are directly certified receive a Direct Certification Notification letter sometime in July or later. Families of these students do NOT need to complete a Household Eligibility Application form OR an Application for Fee Waiver.

Non-Directly Certified Students
Families who do not directly certify for free and reduced meals through the State of Illinois, but would like to apply for free and reduced meals, should complete the electronic Household Eligibility Application at the NSLP App link above on or after July 1, 2023. Applications for 2023-2024 submitted prior to July 1, 2023 will not be processed. To obtain a paper application, please visit your student's school office. Please note that completing the electronic HEA will result in faster processing. Eligibility for free or reduced meals is only applicable to the year in which the application is submitted and is not retroactive. Students who are not approved for free or reduced-priced meals through the HEA or are not directly certified as of July 1, 2023 or later, will be charged for meals and food service items beginning the first day of school on August 16, 2023, with the exception of those with the 30-day carryover of 2022-2023 eligibility, which expires September 30, 2023.

IMPORTANT- Completing the electronic Household Eligibility Application at the NSLP App link above will result in faster processing. However, if you elect to complete a paper application, you can obtain a copy of the HEA after July 1, 2023. The original, signed HEA must be submitted in person to your oldest student's school. Scanned or emailed HEAs will not be processed.

P-EBT Update

As of June 2023, all household inquiries regarding P-EBT will be directed to the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). Parents should call 833.621.0737 or email dhs.fcs.pebt@illinois.gov regarding their students' benefits/cards. 

ISBE Guidelines

The Illinois State Board of Education provides guidelines on the required components of a meal.  A la carte items, milk only, and meals that do not fit the ISBE description of a meal will be charged at full price for ALL students regardless of meal benefit eligibility.
