Today, we cut the ribbon on a brand new playground at Bower Elementary! Thank you to 5th grader Maverick and Warrenville Mayor Brummel for helping us out! This new playground was one of many projects across the District this summer, totaling $10M in investment. #YourCommunitySchools

District 200 School Community, We have received a few emails from families asking about air conditioning on our buses. Our buses do not have air conditioning unless your child has a health plan that requires transportation on an air-conditioned bus. Drivers will open windows to promote air circulation and students are encouraged to dress for the weather. If your child does not tolerate heat well, parents may want to consider driving to/from school or carpooling later this week. We also encourage families to hydrate outside of school hours and send students to school with water bottles. Parents with specific concerns regarding their own child(ren) may contact their child’s teacher and/or principal. We have pasted the email we sent out earlier today below for reference. We want to inform you about our plans for ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff during these periods of high heat. Our schools will use the Child Care Weather Chart below to determine if it is safe for students to go outdoors for recess, P.E. class, or similar activities. If a combination of temperature and humidity results in a heat index in the red category, students will remain indoors. Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South High Schools will follow guidance from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Both of the high schools will provide direct communication to students and families regarding modifications to practices, contests, and game schedules. All middle schools will follow the weather chart recommendations and will communicate directly to their school communities about modifications to their athletic practices. In addition to monitoring the weather, beginning this evening, all District 200 schools will continuously run all air conditioning units through Friday evening to ensure our schools can maintain a comfortable temperature for students and staff. Mobile food pantry this Thursday, August 10 from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. at Monroe Middle School located at 1855 Manchester Road in Wheaton. Families will receive a week’s worth of groceries at no cost in pre-packaged boxes. This food distribution is drive-thru format only. Please spread the word! #YourCommunitySchools

Teachers never stop learning! This year, in partnership with the WWEA, the District is implementing a New Teacher Mentoring Program! All new certified staff members will be paired with formal mentor who will assist them in adapting to the school climate and culture and guiding them through curriculum, teaching strategies, communication skills, and more. Today, mentors were at the District office for an overview and training. #YourCommunitySchools

Congratulations to Cindy Reuter, Textbook Manager, on your retirement! Thank you for 32 years of dedicated service to #YourCommunitySchools Cindy has many fond memories that span her 32 years in the District. She really loved all of the college students that worked with her during the summers. It was always an adventure teaching them how to drive the forklift! In retirement, Cindy looks forward to exercising and paddle boarding. She is especially excited about the freedom retirement brings!

Congratulations to Marcia MacRae from Lowell Elementary on your retirement. Thank you for your service! #YourCommunitySchools Marcia has enjoyed her many conversations with incredible children. She has sparked hundreds of teachers and children to understand the importance of creativity and its impact on learning through programs and museum exhibits that she has developed. Marcia is looking forward to creating art and keeping her house clean when she retires. She has loved every minute of working with the staff and children at Lowell Elementary School. It has been an incredible way for her to end her career.

Congratulations to Robert Kroehnke from Edison Middle School on your retirement! Thank you for 33 years of dedicated service! #YourCommunitySchools Robert feels lucky to have been able to work at the same school that he attended and to have so many of the teachers that taught him as colleagues. He has enjoyed making connections with so many students over the years and hopes that they are able to use some of the lessons he taught them throughout their lives. Robert plans to live, laugh, and enjoy every day in retirement.

Thank you for 17 years of dedicated service! #YourCommunitySchools One of Deborah’s favorite memories is when Edison’s 8th graders participated in Legacy Day as it encouraged students to look outside of themselves and help others and benefit the community. She cherishes being able to make connections with students and encourage them in becoming responsible young adults. In retirement, Deborah plans to enjoy more time with her family and the freedom to travel. She is also looking forward to helping others through her church. She says that it has been a wonderful experience and a privilege to work in District 200.
