Eligibility
Eligibility requirements will apply to all students participating in cross country, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, track, musicals, jazz band, show choirs and any other activities that administration deems appropriate.
Students may not be failing more than one class.
If a student does not meet the above requirements, he/she is placed on probation for one week. The student remains eligible during that week. After the week of probation, the student's progress is again checked. If his/her progress does not meet the above requirements, he/she is ineligible the following week. Only one week of probation is permitted per student per season. During ineligibility, the student may practice with the team, but not dress for contests.
If a student, who is a member of an interscholastic team or school activity, receives an in-school or out of school suspension, he/she is not permitted to participate in practice or events during the terms of that suspension.
Students who are not in attendance for one-half day of school may not participate for practice or a contest.
Eligibility checks will be conducted weekly beginning the third week of the season.
Any unusual circumstances will be reviewed by the Principal, Athletic Director and Counselor.
Code of Conduct
Participation in extracurricular activities is a significant component of a middle school student’s development. Through participation, students develop many life-long skills and positive values. These include: cooperation, leadership, healthful living habits, self-discipline, integrity, teamwork, citizenship skills, and respect for rules and regulations. Participating in extracurricular activities is a privilege. This privilege asks students to meet certain expectations beyond those found in the traditional classroom situation. These expectations are reflected in the Athletic/Activity Code.
Listed below are the rules for participation in all athletic and activity programs. This athletic/activity code shall apply to all students who participate in extracurricular activities. The code is in effect for one calendar year.
A Parent Permission Form is to be signed by a parent (guardian) and participant prior to his/her participation. The commitment that those signatures represent will remain in effect for one calendar year from the date of signing. In order for the individual to participate after that date, the participant must once again sign said form, which in turn will commit the individual for the next calendar year. Hubble participants:
Exhibit acceptable standards of citizenship. All students are expected to follow District 200 School Policy.
Will maintain satisfactory academic proficiency, and they will abide by the eligibility rules, procedures and outcomes.
Realize that any use of profanity or obscenity, spoken, written or gestured is a sign of weakness rather than strength, and that it will not be tolerated.
Do not believe in quitting. They never quit during a contest or practice. Any student who quits a team/group/production will not be eligible to participate in another activity during that same season.
Develop and have pride in their team/group/production, coaches/sponsors, school and most importantly, themselves.
Encourage and support those involved in their activity. They never criticize other participants.
Speak with respect to all students, faculty, and staff at Hubble Middle School or at any other school. Insubordination and disrespect will not be tolerated.
Directly represent Hubble Middle School, the local community, and their coaches/sponsors when they are involved in an activity, sports-related or otherwise, which brings them into contact with others. Therefore, they conduct themselves in such a way as to be a credit to all parties concerned.
Understand that one cannot participate effectively if one uses alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.
Accept the responsibility for taking proper care of all school equipment, uniforms, costumes and props. The clothing items are to be returned clean upon request of coach/director. Participants know they must make restitution for any lost or damaged items used by them. Participants will not be eligible to join another activity until all equipment/uniforms/costumes/props are returned or until restitution is made.
Will be out of the building no later than one-half hour after a game/event or practice.
Are concerned with more than just the activity in which they are participating. Participants support all activities at Hubble Middle School.
Understand that if one receives a detention to be served the day of a contest/event, one will not be able to participate until the detention is served.
Understand that they must attend one-half of the school day on the day of a contest/event/practice in order to be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities that day.
Understand that they are expected to ride the bus to and from each away event unless the coach/director has received prior written permission from the participant’s parent/guardian.
Understand that they are student first.
Know that any substantiated report of illegal activities will be reported to the proper authorities.
Students are subject to disciplinary action for misconduct or disobedience occurring on school ground, at school sponsored activities, in connection with student transportation or at any place where the misconduct or disobedience has a reasonable relationship to school. Each student participating in extracurricular activities is expected to conduct himself/herself in an appropriate manner. If at any time a member of an extracurricular activity is not displaying good conduct and citizenship, the student is subject to discipline, suspension or dismissal from the extracurricular activity. The Principal will make final decisions on all consequences.
