The entire month of June is recognized as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Pride Month is celebrated each year to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in New York City on June 28, 1969, which is considered by most historians to be the birth of the modern LGBTQ+ movement. The City of Wheaton’s Community Relations Commission has put together a list of resources for community members who wish to learn more about Pride Month, which can be found by visiting https://bit.ly/3VtH93g.
In District 200, we care deeply for our students. On a daily basis, our staff work very hard to ensure that we are creating and sustaining an inclusive culture where all students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community feel safe, accepted, cared for, and supported.

Congratulations on your retirement, Maria Bernhagen! Thank you for your dedicated service to the students in District 200. #YourCommunitySchools

Join us at one of our upcoming public engagement sessions to discuss capital improvements at three of our four middle schools! Details below:
After completing much of the infrastructure work needed in our elementary and high school spaces, we now need to address the significant improvements needed at three of our four middle schools: Franklin, Monroe, and Edison.
These aging 1960s buildings need to be modernized to provide safer and more secure buildings with learning spaces that support the rigorous curriculum our community expects and deserves.
The exciting news is our district’s fiscal responsibility has given us a unique opportunity to modernize our middle schools while giving our taxpayers property tax relief in the bond and interest portion of the tax levy.
As a community, we worked together throughout 2023 to determine a plan and nearly 1,300 community members took part in this process. Join our upcoming public engagement sessions to hear about our updated plan and provide your feedback.

Joe Kish, Assistant Principal at Franklin Middle School, and Dr. Kristina Campione, a parent at Johnson Elementary School, and her team of volunteers, were recently honored at a Distinguished Service Celebration.
Each year the Illinois Chapter of National School Public Relations Association recognizes individuals and groups throughout the state who partner with the school communications office, serve as ambassadors for public education, and are champions of students and staff.
Mr. Kish was honored for his dedicated service as a school administrator who is a great example of someone who has fostered cooperative partnerships between the school, district and community. As a longtime District 200 employee and resident, he has gained the trust of parents and staff, and has become a regular point of contact for many community members. Mr. Kish also serves on the District's Safety Committee, organizes various charity events in the community, is involved in maintaining partnerships between the District, first responders and the Outreach Community Center, and much more.
Dr. Campione and her team of volunteers were honored for their dedicated work in spearheading a nonprofit community garden called WeFEED at Johnson Elementary School. As a nutritionist, Dr. Campione took it upon herself to find a way to provide more nutritious meals to low-income families free of charge. Since 2013, the community garden at Johnson has successfully distributed several hundred pounds of produce. In its short existence, the garden has expanded immensely, and has received many community partnerships and donations.
We want to thank Mr. Kish and Dr. Campione for their dedicated commitment to supporting our District, students, and community. Please join us in congratulating them on this well-deserved honor. #YourCommunitySchools
