This fall, the Board asked staff to assemble a Community Engagement Leadership Team that was tasked with collecting community feedback on middle school facilities projects. Following in-person and virtual community engagement sessions, online surveys, and two scientific, representative phone surveys, the Board received a final Community Engagement Report that outlines the community’s feedback and priorities in addressing facilities needs at Edison, Franklin, and Monroe Middle Schools.

In the initial report provided in October 2023, the community was supportive of ten project areas with safety and security and infrastructure and mechanicals being the two highest priorities. In terms of funding, 89% of community members supported additional funding to support the facilities' needs.

After a second survey, outlined in the final report delivered last night, the community is supportive of the District addressing all priorities at the district’s middle schools, completing the decades long effort to catch up on the district’s infrastructure needs, while still providing residents property tax relief. The Board is expected to further discuss community feedback and the next steps in addressing facilities needs at a January 2024 Board Meeting.
