Whittier Transportation Information

  • Morning Arrival by Bus
    Our buses line up directly in front of Whittier heading eastbound on Park Avenue. They let students out at approximately 8:50 AM. Students will walk to their assigned areas and meet school staff outside of the following doors:
    Kindergarten and 1st Grade: Outside of Door 3 (located at the front of the school) on the blacktop
    2nd and 3rd Grade: Outside of Doors 4 and 5 (located at the back of the school) on the blacktop
    4th Grade: On the playground blacktop (in the back of the school)
    5th Grade: Outside of our main entrance Door 1 (center front of the school)

  • Morning Arrival by Car
    Parents have the option of dropping their child off anywhere close to our Whittier building and when crossing a street is necessary to reach the school building the student(s) should be crossed by the parent or by the crossing guard that we provide.  Students should never exit a vehicle on the street side . Some options for dropping by car are on Park Avenue heading eastbound after our buses depart (typically our buses pull away at approximately 8:53). Therefore, cars can pull up and safely drop off in front of the building. Other options are dropping off on Arbor Avenue at the path that leads to our playground, or on Wheaton Avenue.  Students are never to walk through parking lots or side driveways around the school for safety purposes.   • Afternoon Dismissal for Bus Riders
    Buses will be parked on Wheaton Avenue and on Park Avenue to pick up all students that ride the bus.

  • Afternoon Dismissal for Walkers and Car Riders
    Our pick-up for all non-bus riding students at Whittier is in the rear of the building on Arbor Avenue. Parents park in a line on Arbor Avenue heading westbound and we dismiss students to their cars as they pull up. If you are meeting your child and planning on walking home with him or her, please meet your child on the blacktop path that leads to Arbor Avenue (at the edge of our playground) in the rear of the building.  Students are never to walk through school parking lots or side driveways when departing from the school building.    

To Minimize Curriculum Interruption in the Classrooms With Messages - Unless there is an emergency change of plans occurring within the course of the day, please coordinate dismissal plans with your student prior to their arrival to school.  Emails sent to teachers about change of dismissal should arrive to the teacher no later than 8:45 a.m. to ensure the teacher sees the messages prior to the start of their teaching day.  Always copy the school office on emails regarding dismissal changes (& absences): WhittierSchoolOffice@cusd200.org
