John Carroll Young Writers
The John Carroll University Young Writers Workshop (YWW), a week-long summer camp at John Carroll University, offers in person, online, and overnight options, so students from all over the country can experience inspiring and rigorous creative writing! This year's workshop takes place from Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28, 2023. The cost for the day-only option is $380; the residential option is $980. Early bird rates and some scholarships are available. The application deadline for the workshop is May 1, 2023.

In the JCU YWW, students in grades 8-12 participate in an immersive writing experience in the craft of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Studying with acclaimed professors, students read, engage in writing exercises, workshop their stories and poems, and experience a pre-college environment. They also compose new work, which will be published in our annual anthology.

Exelon STEM Academy
The 2023 Exelon Foundation STEM Academy is a free, week-long program for current 10th and 11th grade girls (class of 2024 and 2025) interested in STEM that live in Northern Illinois (ComEd service territory). These young women will learn from women working in STEM and other leaders; explore sustainability, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate change through hands on activities; and connect with like-minded peers. The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy Chicago summer program will be held Sunday, July 9th - Friday, July 14th at the University of Illinois Chicago.

All interested students, educators, or parents are welcome to join us for an informational session. Participants will be able to ask questions, hear from STEM Academy alumnae, and learn more about the summer academy.

University of Massachusetts Amherst
Our popular pre-college workshops are back for Spring 2023! Designed for high school students at all grade levels, these workshops offer practical skills and knowledge to help teens along their journey of applying to college.

This March, two different online workshops are available: SAT & ACT Test Prep with best-selling author Brian Leaf, and Navigating the College Application Process, led by independent education consultant and former admissions officer Sallie Batchelor.

University of Wisconsin Badger Scholars
Learn what it is like to be a badger and gain valuable experience living and learning in a dynamic and challenging environment, all while interacting with UW–Madison faculty at a top-ranked university. You will choose one academic track to focus on during the academic day. Class sizes are kept small to allow for an engaging course and are taught by UW–Madison instructors. Need-based scholarships are available.

After class blocks are over, you will participate in a series of college preparatory workshops, designed to help you become familiar with the college application process and college life.

Bank of America Student Leader Program
The program helps Junior and Senior students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:

A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.
The week-long, all-expense paid Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 25-30, 2022. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

St. Jude Leadership Society
St. Jude Leadership Society (SJLS) is a unique opportunity for students to make a difference in the battle against childhood cancer, while getting the tools and resources they need to be strong advocates and future leaders. SJLS is a leadership development opportunity for high school students who share in our commitment to give back to our country and community through service and leadership; by promoting and supporting the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The admittance process includes an online application and a phone interview. There is no fee to participate! Students will distinguish themselves on college applications by developing skills including: strategic leadership development, effective communication, and exposure to career possibilities.

The St. Jude Leadership Society is a leadership experience that consists of four in person sessions in the greater Chicago-land area and culminates in Memphis in July, where SJLS members from all over the country will gather together to be recognized for their achievements and to tour and witness up close the lifesaving work being done at St. Jude.

Duke Summer Session
Earn college credit alongside academically-motivated students from around the world in Duke University’s Summer College for High School Students. If you are a student currently in grades 10 – 12, you are eligible to apply. This 4-week credit-bearing summer program offered by Duke University attracts students who represent the next generation of leaders from around the world. Immerse yourself in an international college experience by enrolling in this élite program designed to provide high school students with an academic and residential environment conducive to collegiate success.

Rustic Pathways: Education. Travel. Philanthropy.

Rustic Pathways has been the leader in global teen adventure travel and community service programs since 1983. Through purposeful design, we create culturally-immersive travel programs for students ages 12 to 22, customizable teacher-led trips for school groups, and gap year semesters for recent high school grads.

Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program
The Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program aims to create a pathway for the next generation of NM leaders by drawing on the talents of our incredible team of health care professionals to provide STEM career exposure. Throughout the two-year Program, students will be exposed to a broad range of health care careers through activities including tours, guest speakers, group discussion, and hands-on projects. In addition, the Program fosters character and professional development, cultivates life skills, provides community service and leadership experience, and offers mentorship and networking opportunities.

Abbey Road Summer Program
Founded by Stanford alumni in 2000, Abbey Road’s study abroad summer programs continue to deliver excellence. Our mission is to provide quality academic summer programs that facilitate cross-cultural understanding, personal growth and academic enrichment. Abbey Road was created through a collaboration of the best young professionals and educators from top schools and esteemed institutions. Our curriculum developers and staff come from places such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Duke, Cambridge, La Sorbonne, the United Nations, the World Bank, the European Parliament and the State Department ….. just to name a few.

Veterinary Internship
Every year, The Anti-Cruelty Society in downtown Chicago joins forces with The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine to offer Chicagoland students that are interested in becoming veterinarians the chance to learn more about the field directly from the experts in our Veterinary Mentoring Program.

The program meets at The Anti-Cruelty Society one Saturday per month from September – April. Each session covers a different field within the world of veterinary medicine, presented by a practicing professional that either works at the university or is closely affiliated with it.

Their goal is to introduce students to the types of subjects that they will encounter on the road to becoming a veterinarian and to give them a better idea of what their college-level course work will be like. Because of this, the Veterinary Mentoring Program is geared toward passionate, driven students that already have a strong interest in the field of veterinary medicine.

The requirements for this program are as follows:

Students must be enrolled in 10th through 12th grade (during the program) and have completed at least one high school-level biology course.
Students must have at least a 3.00 overall grade point average (or equivalent) that is verified by a teacher or guidance counselor via email.
Students must be able to attend a two-hour seminar one Saturday per month at The Anti-Cruelty Society.

Denison University's Young Writers Workshop
Every summer for more than two decades, talented high school students (current sophomores and juniors) have been welcomed to Denison University in Granville, Ohio, for the acclaimed Reynolds Young Writers Workshop. The workshop is an eight-day residential program that incorporates small creative writing workshops, group sessions with Denison creative writing faculty and notable visiting writers, and much more. This is your students' chance to work with award-winning authors whose work has appeared in publications like The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and SB Nation; who have published books; who care deeply about storytelling; and who love to teach.

Boston Univ Academy of Media Production
At Boston University, summer represents a unique opportunity to explore what you truly love doing. The pre-college and youth summer programs at Boston University allow middle and high school students the opportunity to gain valuable academic experience, enhance their existing skill sets, and have fun over the summer. FitRec also offers recreational camps for elementary and middle school students. Boston University hosts many exciting and challenging programs, covering a wide range of interests and disciplines.
