A Message From the Superintendent on Election Night Results
Dear CUSD 200 Community,
Last night, voters in our community approved a $151.5 million bond referendum that will allow us to improve safety and security in our middle schools, ensure healthy and accessible buildings for all students, and provide our middle schoolers with 21st century learning environments.
According to preliminary results, voters approved the referendum by a 67.9% to 32.1% margin. We are still waiting for some provisional and mail-in ballots to be counted, but we don’t expect the outcome of the referendum to change. Your support is a testament to the values we share as a community that is invested in the future of our students.
This journey began in 2013 with conversations about the long-term needs of our schools. Together, we have shaped a plan to address those needs thoughtfully, responsibly, and sustainably. We deeply appreciate the time, input, and trust you've extended to us along the way. Thank you for coming together as a community to prioritize the learning, safety, and well-being of our students and teachers.
This responsible, community-driven plan to modernize our middle schools will provide safer and more secure buildings with learning spaces that support the rigorous curriculum our community expects and deserves. It will build pride in our middle school buildings. It will bring parity to our four middle schools, giving all students the same quality learning opportunities. It will also provide welcoming spaces for the community.
In the months ahead, we will be drafting detailed plans and timetables for implementing the projects included in the referendum. We will be further engaging the community on many of those details, so stay tuned. Our Referendum Information webpage will remain publicly accessible, and a new Middle School Capital Facilities Projects webpage has been launched to keep you updated on the progress of each improvement.
Again, on behalf of our administration and the CUSD 200 school board, thank you for your support and for enhancing the safety and security of our students and teachers, and creating an environment where all our students can excel!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeff Schuler, Superintendent
Community Unit School District 200
