District 200 Programs Serve Approximately 14,500 Students

District 200's curriculum and programs are designed to serve the needs of all students. The curriculum is locally developed to meet the rigorous standards and expectations of the community and to be in alignment with the State of Illinois Learning Standards.

In these pages you will learn more about the curriculum and programs that serve our community's children, a group of young people from varied socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

District 200 Programs at a Glance
 
Preschool
Open to typically developing and special needs children ages three, four, and five
Developmentally appropriate curriculum with a focus on language, socialization, motor skills, and pre-academic skill development
Certified teacher and classroom aide for each section
 
Elementary School

Balanced language arts program including phonics and literature based instruction with a focus on spelling and writing
Math instruction that teaches computational skills and applies them in problem solving activities
Art and general music instruction from teacher specialists
Library Learning Centers with Internet access
Daily physical education from PE teachers
Gifted program in mathematics and language arts
A social studies program that focuses on economics, political science, geography, history and social institutions
Instrumental music instruction beginning in fourth grade
Optional foreign language program during lunch
Before and after school programs
Hot lunch programs will be available in all schools by the beginning of the second semester
 
Middle School
Teaming model used for instructional groupings
Foreign language required of all eighth graders
A full year of science required in all grades
Gifted programs in mathematics and language arts Practical technology requirement
Library Learning Centers with Internet access
Interscholastic athletics and intramural programs
After school clubs and activities
Electives in art, music, drama, and practical technology
 
High School
Comprehensive college preparatory program
Vocational programs on site and through Technology Center of DuPage
Academic courses offered at three levels-advanced, intermediate and remedial
Advanced Placement classes offered in English, calculus, U. S. history, statistics and government and politics.
Electives in art, music, foreign language, technical education and core academic subjects
Foreign language instruction offered in French, Spanish, German and Latin
Internships offered with local businesses
An extensive interscholastic boys' and girls' athletic program
Activities in fine and performing arts, special interest clubs and intramurals
Performance opportunities in band, orchestra, chorus, and drama
 
Other Programs and Support Services
A full continuum of services is offered to special needs children
English as a Second Language and Bilingual program are offered to children whose native language is not English
Psychologists, social workers, speech and occupational therapists, and nurses are available to counsel regular and special education students as needed
A summer school program offers enrichment courses, remedial classes, recreational activities, general interest mini-courses and classes required for high school graduation.
