Hubble Teacher Named a Golden Apple Finalist
Victoria Hollister, social studies teacher at Hubble Middle School, is one of 32 finalists for the prestigious 2005 Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching. The ten winners will be announced on March 9 and 10 after each of the finalists has been visited by an observation team from the Golden Apple Foundation. Mrs. Hollister will be honored on February 12, when she will receive a plaque for herself and her school. She was selected from a group of 747 teachers who were nominated for their outstanding teaching. The ten winners will receive a tuition-free fall sabbatical of courses at Northwestern University, a $2,500 cash award, and a personal computer. Mrs. Hollister joined the District 200 staff in 1984 as a part-time social studies teacher at Wheaton Warrenville Middle School. She was hired full-time the following year and has remained a middle school teacher since, moving to Hubble in 1992 when the Wheaton Warrenville building reopened as a high school.
