JOHNSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RECEIVES A PORTRAIT OF ITS NAMESAKE

Clifford JohnsonJohnson Elementary School received a portrait of its namesake, Clifford A. Johnson, in a ceremony at the school on May 23. The portrait, commissioned by Cliff Johnson’s son, Andy Johnson and family, will be hung in the school’s lobby. Mr. Johnson has led a very active and involved life in the Warrenville area, devoting a great deal of time and energy to community service. The portrait artist, Robert Bentley, incorporated many of the emblems and images from Cliff’s life into the painting.

Cliff Johnson joined the Army Air Corp, the precursor to the US Air Force, in 1946 and served with distinction in the Air & Airwaves Communications Service until his honorable discharge in 1949. He is a life member of the Warrenville VFW and has served many positions of leadership over the years. He is a founding member of the Kiwanis Club – Warrenville Chapter and helped bring the Kiwanis motto: “We Build” to life, participating in numerous park projects and raising funds for youth scholarships.

Clifford Johnson joined the Warrenville Fire Protection District in 1962 as a volunteer firefighter and was selected as Chief in 1971. He became the first full time employee in 1986 and served as Chief until he retired in 1994.

Cliff and his wife, Fay, are active members of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he served in a variety of roles including being a member of the church council, a Sunday school teacher and computer operator.

Clifford Johnson is a role model for others to emulate and for children to admire. He lives his life by serving others and demonstrates community pride, spirit, and dedication. He is a credit to the community.
